Reading Den creating a “sexy literary scene” at one of Denver’s coolest bars | The Denver Post
Sexiness sells. But outside of steamy romance novels, how does that apply to literature? What’s the carnal thrust of listening to someone read — even at a bar, where flirtatious glances rain from the ceiling?
You’d be surprised.
“Part of the magic of reading a book is in the sharing that happens afterward, when you recommend it to a friend or you talk to someone about what you loved or hated about it,” said Amanda Boldenow, co-owner of the newly opened Spell Books in Littleton. “I would agree that we definitely need more literary community here, though, and in a fun, unstuffy way.”
Enter Reading Den, a free, monthly series debuting Wednesday, Feb. 28, at Globeville’s hip Fort Greene bar. The goal is to “shift Denver to a more sexy literary scene like NYC or LA,” creators Adam Vitcavage and Sarah Ann Noel said.

“After spending almost a decade covering books and authors on a national level, I wanted to turn my attention to bringing the community here together,” explains Adam Vitcavage, co-founder of the well-known literary podcast, Debutiful, and my Reading Den co-founder. “There were pockets of writers who built their own strong communities, but since we’re all creatures of habit, I never expanded beyond those groups. Case in point: I thought Sarah lived in New York and once I realized she was here in the mountains, I asked if she’d help make a reading series a reality.”

Reading Den is a monthly reading series co-founded by Adam Vitcavage and Sarah Ann Noel that runs on the last Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. The evening features readings from four writers, many of whom are local, and presents attendees the opportunity to meet and mingle.
“It’s like storytime for grown-ups,” Noel said, “with high-caliber writing, amazing cocktails, a gorgeous setting, and a group of people there to meet, chat, share.”
