February 28: Vauhini Vara, Andrew Altschul, and Anna Qu

Join us on February 28, 2024 at Fort Greene for the inaugural reading of the Reading Den series.

The event is free to the public and begins at 7pm. Registration is encouraged.

ABOUT THE READERS

Vauhini Vara is the author of The Immortal King Rao, which was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, shortlisted for the National Book Critics Circle’s John Leonard Prize and the Center for Fiction’s First Novel Prize. It won the Colorado Book Award and is being adapted for television.

The New Yorker and Publishers Weekly named her new short-story collection, This Is Salvaged, as one of the the best books of 2023.

Andrew Altschul is the author of The Gringa, now available from Melville House Press. His previous novels are Lady Lazarus and Deus Ex Machina.

His short fiction and essays have appeared in Esquire, McSweeney’s, Ploughshares, Hemispheres, Fence, and other publications, and in anthologies including Best American Nonrequired Reading, Best New American Voices, and O. Henry Prize Stories. He is currently the Director of Creative Writing at Colorado State University.

Anna Qu is a Chinese American writer. She writes personal essays on identity and growing up in New York as an immigrant. She is the author of the memoir Made in China: A Memoir of Love and Labor.

Her work has appeared in Poets & Writers, Lithub, Threepenny Review, Lumina, Kartika, Kweli, Vol.1 Brooklyn, and Jezebel, among others. She holds an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from Sarah Lawrence College. Sh serves as the Nonfiction Editor at Kweli Journal, and teaches at Catapult, Monmouth University and the low res MFA program at New England College. Awarded the 2023 BMI Shearing Fellowship, she’ll be in Vegas in the Spring.
